Christy Ma is a Hong Kong-born and raised artist. She has attained her MA double degree at Uniarts Helsinki and Goethe University Frankfurt in Comparative Dramaturgy and Performance Research and BA at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in Contemporary Dance. She is an accomplished performer, choreographer, and interdisciplinary artist.
With a passion for exploring the nuances and features of different artistic mediums, Christy's works incorporate various disciplines, including theatre, dance, aerial bungee dance, moving images and installations. Her works have been staged in Helsinki, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, China, and Malaysia, showcasing her ability to create thought-provoking works that delve into the complexities of the human experience.
Christy has worked with renowned dance companies such as City Contemporary Dance Company and Guangdong Modern Dance Company, and was awarded the female solo Champion for the 2020 Seoul International Dance Competition, highlighting her exceptional talent and skill.
Driven by a desire to use the physical body to express one's mind beyond words, Christy's works often focus on the humanities in relation to social and political issues. Through her art, she seeks to find a way of life that connects individuals and communities and explores the possibilities of art to create positive change in the world.
